A New Season Begins - AGM Notes

From Flamboro Speedway

The annual general meeting was held today at the Waterdown Legion, as representatives from race teams across all three home track divisions reunited to kick-off the start of the 50th Anniversary racing season at Flamboro Speedway.

Driver and Car Owner registrations were opened, with a 20% discount for those teams registered before the close of the meeting.  As of now
the regular rate of $125 registration applies for each driver requiring a competitor license to compete in Saturday night weekly competition.

The new registration forms are available under the Competitors tab, online.  For quick access, you can also click here to download the PDFs.

2011 Owner Registration (PDF) for all car owners who will not be registered competitors.

A complete copy of the 2011 Rule Book is also available for download, and each division section has been broken out separately and is available online under the Competitors tab.

2011 Flamboro Rule Book (PDF)

As always, all interested competitors are encouraged to read and become familiar with the Rule Book.
It is your responsibility to be aware of the rules and practices and to adhere to them at all events.

Most changes and amendments have been highlighted in the online PDFs to bring them to your attention.  A couple of notes from the meeting:

- The Handicap system is changed for the new season.  In honour of the anniversary season Flamboro Speedway has returned to a handicapped heat race setup, based on driver performance averages.  This effectively means a fast car, medium car, slow car heat race setup.  No more drawing for starting positions.  Averages will be calculated as total points divided by nights competed.  Full-night DQs will not be calculated as part of the average.  Non-feature race appearances will not be included in your average.  Those cars that qualify from the heat races (up to 18, six per heat) will be handicapped by their performance average again with low averages to the front and high averages to the back.  The driver who won the previous feature race will automatically lineup at the back of the qualified cars regardless of average.  Read the rule book for a complete description (General Rules - Handicapping).

- New point fund and perfect attendance awards were announced, with three speedway partners teaming up as division title sponsors.  Grisdale Racing returns as the lead partner of Late Model racing;  Freedom Village has expanded their program to join the Thunder Car class; and Ponderosa Resort will lead the sponsorship of the Mini Stock class.  Sincere thanks to each sponsor partner for their support!

Complete point fund prizes and perfect attendance bonuses are published in the rule book, per division.

The new perfect attendance bonus will be shared by Car Owners whose Car achieves perfect attendance in all events, including special events.  One criteria to that award, on top of being at the track each night, is to be in good standing with the speedway and have a clean competition record.  Per the Rule Book, "A driver who receives a DQ for the night (ie. no points, no money) will be prohibited from further competition at that event.  The resulting 0-point score for the event will result in disqualification from perfect attendance."

- It is the 50th Anniversary season for Flamboro Speedway and August 20th, the scheduled Flamboro Speedway Memorial Night, will mark that occasion in a special way.  There is an online registration available for former participants and members of Flamboro Speedway.  Past racers simply need to register their story, and once approved by the promoters, will receive an invitation to the August 20th event as a VIP guest of the speedway (free admission for you and a guest).  For details, visit the 50th Anniversary Celebration page.

- There will be a weekly Souvenir Program available this season.  Click Here for details.

- The completed event schedule is expected to be posted online before March 1st.  It was shared that each division has a number of weekends "off," and that teams can look for these dates in the schedule.

- The Grisdale Triple Crown tournament dates are: May 28th,  July 2nd, and August 6th.

- Oktoberfest is scheduled for the weekend of October 1st and 2nd.

- Opening Day is Saturday, April 26th.
