PRESS RELEASE from Flamboro Speedway Three local race teams have been selected to prepare race cars for visiting NASCAR Stars Ken Schrader, Sterling Marlin and Jimmy Spencer, competing in the Canada Day Race of Champions this July 1st at Flamboro Speedway. Brad Collison, Nick Roth and Shawn Chenoweth will make the transition from racer to car owner for the Friday afternoon special event, lending rides to the visiting NASCAR Stars for their special appearance in the Main Event feature. Said promoter John Casale, “We greatly appreciate the out pouring of offers from a number of teams. It shows just how excited the local racing community is about welcoming the NASCAR Stars to Flamboro Speedway.”
Prior to the event’s announcement,
Casale had an idea of the teams he wanted to work with. Of highest
consideration was insuring that the equipment to be run by the
visiting Stars was of the highest safety standard, as well as being
a competitive car. Mission accomplished! Brad Collison and the London Recreational race team will be preparing the car for NASCAR driver Ken Schrader. Collison is a past champion of Thunder Car racing at Flamboro Speedway, winning the track title in 2004. His recent performance has earned him a top five in the standings each year, and a number of main event feature race wins. Known around the asphalt arena as the “Ice Man”, Collison has been a fixture in the Cambridge area working with local radio station and sponsor Dave FM to promote weekly racing. His knowledge of the speedway will go far in assisting Schrader to find the groove in only a limited number of practice laps.
Shawn Chenoweth may have been the most obvious choice to prepare a car for “Mr. Excitement” Jimmy Spencer. The two share a similar aggressive driving style, in addition to a plus size driver suit measurement. The most dominant Late Model competitor of 2010, Chenoweth won a number of championships in his #89 including the Flamboro track title, Grisdale Triple Crown, Autumn Colours Classic and Oktoberfest Weekend. He will be working to ready the #89 Thunder Car that his father Bob took to victory lane a number of times early last summer, before a severe arm injury side-lined ‘Big Bad Bob’ for the rest of the season. Of the three matches this may be the best fit of the bunch, and may give Spencer the advantage on Race Day.
Forty teams will try to make the final fifteen for the opportunity to compete with the NASCAR Stars in the Canada Day Race of Champions. 20 will be invited from the weekly standings of the Freedom Village Thunder Cars. 20 will be outside invitations including past and present champions from around the province.
